Epicenter: Simi Valley

We had an earthquake yesterday. Nothing major, just a 3.5.

The Hacker and I were at a cousin's birthday party when it hit. We all paused, asked the usual question: "This is an earthquake, right?" There is always the follow-up question "How big you think it was? a 4? maybe 3?"

That was that. It was over. The party continued without a hitch. No one moved, no one worried. We all continued with the party.  I have never been in the city where the epicenter was before.  It's nice to put Simi Valley on the map.

In CA, earthquakes come with the territory. We ride it out, then speculate on the magnitude. I guess we should snag that line from the British: Keep Calm, Carry On.

The Hacker and I were both eight when the the big Northridge of '94 hit. The Hacker's house was condemned. I had to wear a hard hat to math class.

We both enjoy riding out the tremors. I've missed that last two, so I was thankful to feel this one.

They are always nice reminders that we're not in control of anything. It is a comfortable place to be.
